Summer is wrapping up and fall will be here before we know it. Here is a short list of a few maintenance tasks that you may want to complete yet this summer.

1.       Clean and seal your deck – Summer is a great time to give your deck a fresh coat.

2.       Power wash – Anything that you need to power wash, now is a great time to do it. Siding, decks, and driveways will all benefit from a good power wash this summer. It’ll dry quickly and there is no risk of overnight freezing.

3.       Paint your shutters – Giving your shutters a little face-lift can help the overall appearance of your home. Painting your shutters is an inexpensive and easy task that you can complete this summer.

4.       Schedule a chimney inspection and cleaning– This might seem like a weird task to complete in the summer. However, if you have it done early, it’ll give you time to make any repairs that you may need done so that it is ready for use when the cold hits. Additionally, it may be cheaper to service it now when demand is lower.

5.       Have a furnace inspection completed – The same concept applies to getting your furnace in order. Don’t wait until you need it to have it serviced. Instead, consider having your furnace inspected now so it is in good working order when it gets cold!

6.       Clean your grill – Although you should scrub off food residue after each use, summer is a great time to give your grill a deep cleaning.

7.       Clean the gutters – Keeping the gutters clean seasonally can help make the task quicker and easier. Give the gutters a good clean out this summer so that when the leaves start falling there won’t be any build up.

8.       Replace weather stripping on doors- Replacing weather stripping will help keep the warm air in during the cold months. It is best to do this task before it’s cold though since it requires the door to be open.

When shoveling your deck do not use a metal shovel – Plastic is ok, rubber tipped is better.

Hire a reputable moving company – Seriously, this is money well spent. You will thank yourself later. Hiring a company to move you will relieve so much stress on moving day. This is especially important if you are buying one house and selling another is a relatively short time span. You won’t have to beg friends and family to help, or deal with the stress of not having enough hands to get the job done in time. While someone else moves your belongings, you can be at your new house unpacking, or the old house cleaning up.

When someone has a backyard fence installed, they typically want to enclose as much of their backyard space as possible. This naturally involves going up to property lines (or as close as allowed by your city and association). In order to come extremely close to property lines, it needs to be established precisely where they are. Here a few methods that can be used.

The more mass that the fence has, the better it will be at reflecting noises. Stone, brick, or concrete is the best material for the job. However, these options tend to be a little impractical for use in a residential setting. A more practical and cost-effective option is wood.

Just like bath bombs add a splash of color to your bathwater, seed bombs add a splash of color to your garden! You can buy them online or from a specialty store. They are also very easy to make!

Staining is probably the most popular option for fence coating. Stain is absorbed into the fence, so chipping does not occur like it does with painting. Another benefit to stain, is that you will still be able to see the lovely grain patterns that often get covered by paint products. Re-staining is less labor intensive because you will not need to remove the entire previous coatings.

"But still, their tunnels close to the surface can be unsightly and make mowing more difficult. Additionally, mole tunnels can be high-jacked by other rodents that DO eat the roots of grass and plants."
