Summer is here and so are the parties. If you will be hosting one on your deck/backyard this summer or if you will be going to one, here are a few suggestions for some fun and maybe unexpected drinks.

Easy Summer Strawberry Sangria
Special warning with this one, it disappears fast!
You will need one bottle of a Spanish red wine like Tempranillo or Garnacha (however any fruit forward, dry red wine will work). One and a half cups of cut up strawberries, not too big or too small, just enough to make them easy to pour out. Sugar to taste, but ⅔ cup is a good suggestion. Add the sugar slowly, you can’t unsweeten the drink once it has been added. Let the drink rest in your refrigerator for about one hour and enjoy! If you are wondering about muddling the fruit, don’t worry, the flavors will mix. We hope you enjoy! To kick it up a bit, you may want to add some mint or a few raspberries or strawberries at serving time.
  • 1-Bottle of Spanish red wine
  • 1 ½ cups of chopped up strawberries
  • ⅔ cup of sugar to taste
  • Let chill for one hour
Sweet Tea Sangria

Everyone loves an ice cold glass of sweet tea in the summer. So why not spice it up? Berries and peaches are on sale this time of year so let’s take advantage! To make this drink you’ll need six cups of sweet tea. You could play around with the flavor but standard sweet tea versus raspberry or peach might be best. Add one bottle of white wine, like a Pinot Grigio for a drier style or Moscato if you like sweet drinks. Then add a pint of berries and about 1-2 peaches, sliced up. Garnish with some fresh mint.
  • 6 cups sweet tea
  • 1 bottle of white wine
  • 1pt berries
  • Sliced peaches
  • Fresh mint for the garnish.
Fruit Mojito Bar

Berries are also abundant this time of year: strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries. This makes this cocktail fun, easy, and versatile. You could even set this up as a Mojito bar at your next party! Mojitos are normally: rum, mint, sugar, lime and and club soda. All you have to do to mix up this recipe is add the muddled berries!
To set up your station or to make a Mojito: Chop up your berry of choice and muddle (crush) with some sugar and a leaf or two of mint. You don’t want to turn it into a paste, just enough to release juice from the fruit and oil from the mint, and for the sugar to help mix with the juices. A muddler is best for this but if not available, a fork will work in a pinch. In each glass place ingredients in this order, to taste: a spoonful of fruit/mint mixture, more sugar if preferred ~1 tsp., ice, rum, club soda and mix. Garnish with a lemon/lime wedge or mint leaf.
  • 1/2 c. of each fruit variety.
  • handful fresh mint leaves
  • Juice of 2 limes
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 c. light rum
  • Crushed ice
  • club soda
  • Garnish: lemon/lime wedges or mint leaf.
All of these drinks are served best with good company. Enjoy!

When shoveling your deck do not use a metal shovel – Plastic is ok, rubber tipped is better.

Hire a reputable moving company – Seriously, this is money well spent. You will thank yourself later. Hiring a company to move you will relieve so much stress on moving day. This is especially important if you are buying one house and selling another is a relatively short time span. You won’t have to beg friends and family to help, or deal with the stress of not having enough hands to get the job done in time. While someone else moves your belongings, you can be at your new house unpacking, or the old house cleaning up.

When someone has a backyard fence installed, they typically want to enclose as much of their backyard space as possible. This naturally involves going up to property lines (or as close as allowed by your city and association). In order to come extremely close to property lines, it needs to be established precisely where they are. Here a few methods that can be used.

The more mass that the fence has, the better it will be at reflecting noises. Stone, brick, or concrete is the best material for the job. However, these options tend to be a little impractical for use in a residential setting. A more practical and cost-effective option is wood.

Staining is probably the most popular option for fence coating. Stain is absorbed into the fence, so chipping does not occur like it does with painting. Another benefit to stain, is that you will still be able to see the lovely grain patterns that often get covered by paint products. Re-staining is less labor intensive because you will not need to remove the entire previous coatings.
